City of McAllen to Administer Firefighter Entrance Exam

Civil Service Examination for McAllen Entry Level Firefighter on Friday, March 10, 2023
(McAllen, Texas)-The City of McAllen Fire Department is looking for a few good public servants who are interested in becoming a McAllen Firefighter.
“The McAllen Fire Department is a workforce of men and women dedicated to keep the residents of our community safe,” said Interim McAllen Fire Chief Juan Gloria. “A firefighter is a first responder and rescuer extensively trained in firefighting, primarily to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten life, property, and the environment as well as to rescue people and in some cases, even animals from dangerous situations. If you think you have what it takes to join the McAllen Fire Department, we encourage you to take the first step and apply to take the examination.”
Those who meet the requirements may be considered for employment with the McAllen Fire Department upon successful completion of the following:
Civil Service fire entry-level examination.
Pre-employment physical fitness assessment.
Applicant interview(s).
Background investigation.
All medical/psychological certifications as required
The civil service fire entry-level examination will be administered on Friday, March10, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at the McAllen Convention Center, 701 Convention Center Blvd. Those individuals interested in taking the test must complete the application and submit all required documents. In order to be placed on the Entrance Eligibility List, an applicant must pass the examination.

Applications and requirements must be completed and submitted to the City of McAllen Civil Service Department by no later than Wednesday, March 1, 2023, by 5:00 p.m. Applications may be dropped off to Rosie Pedraza, McAllen Civil Service Director or mailed to P.O. Box 220, McAllen, TX 48505-0220.

McAllen Fire Department cadet pay is $32,148.27. Upon completion of one year of service, annual salary is $45,904.76.
