Rep. Cuellar Announces $1,500,000 Federal Earmark for Street Improvements in Rio Bravo

(Washington, D.C.)-U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced a $1,500,000 federal earmark for street improvements in Rio Bravo.
The funds will go towards repairing significant fissures on roadways and flood prevention measures to ensure roadways are passable after heavy rainfall. Currently, roadways are easily flooded and become impassable for emergency vehicles, school buses, and residents.
Congressman Cuellar also announced $4.6 million in federal funding for the Webb County Health Center to be constructed at Modular Boulevard and Highway 83. The 9,600 square foot health center will provide a variety of medical services to the residents of Rio Bravo, El Cenizo, and La Presa.
The center will enable the county to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and provide routine health care services, including vaccinations, dental care, and checkups.
“We must always put the safety of our communities first. Emergency services personnel need the proper roadway infrastructure to ensure that they can reach members of our community living in Rio Bravo. Additionally, residents must have safe, reliable access points for entry and exit to support the growth and development of the region,” said Congressman Cuellar, a senior member on the House Appropriations Committee.
“This project will protect an economically underserved and disadvantaged area and allow county emergency services safe travel in the event of an emergency. Repairing these roads is the first step towards growth and development in Rio Bravo. I want to thank Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez and Mayor Gilbert Aguilar for recognizing the needs of the community and working together to find long-term solutions.”
“These federal monies come at a much-needed time to Webb County, Precinct One as the pandemic is still lingering in our community. A Public Health Facility will be its first of its kind in southern Webb County and we will be partnering up with several agencies like Mercy Ministries and Gateway Health Clinic. being able to collaborate with the city of Rio Bravo to address the much-needed street improvements is a step in the right direction for the community. I want to thank Congressman Henry Cuellar for always keeping Webb County colonias in mind,” said Webb County Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez.
The road improvements will support the safety of Rio Bravo’s 4,450 residents as well as emergency services personnel who are not able to navigate the roads during flooding events. The clinic will serve Webb County residents primarily from Rio Bravo, El Cenizo, and La Presa.
