-UHS Senior Receives Full Scholarship Offers From Five Universities, US Naval Academy

(Laredo, Texas)-United High School JROTC senior Juan Angel Villarreal, Jr., was awarded full scholarships to five universities: UCLA, USC, Baylor, Texas Tech, and the University of Texas. In addition to these prestigious universities, Villarreal was also accepted into the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Villarreal has flourished as a first-year member of United High School’s JROTC program. After his first few months of membership in the program, he earned the prestigious Kitty Hawk Award. The Kitty Hawk Award is a national AFJROTC academic award that recognizes academic and military achievement by cadets, provides additional leadership/educational opportunities, and encourages excellence.
Villarreal is a highly decorated member of the Class of 2022. He is an active member of the JROTC, National Honor Society, Varsity Football team, Varsity Track & Field team, and Accounting Club. In addition to participating in multiple extracurricular activities, he also takes Advanced Placement and college courses and earned the distinction as an AP Scholar.
Villarreal has accepted the NROTC full scholarship with the University of Texas at Austin and will become a Marine Officer upon completing his studies at UT. Villarreal’s AFJROTC instructor Jose M. Loya, Major, USAF (Ret), said of Villarreal, “Johnny is an incredibly dedicated and disciplined individual. I am so proud of the effort that he has put into setting the path for his future. He is one of our students to watch. We will see great things from him.”
