Alexander H.S. Alumna Appointed to be Judicial Law Clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD congratulates Ms. Alejandra Avila on her appointment as a judicial law clerk for Justice Sonia Sotomayor on the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Avila was born in Mexico City and is the daughter of Jorge and Silvia Avila.

She graduated from John B. Alexander High School in 2007 as a distinguished student and earned a full academic scholarship as a President’s Scholar in the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), D.D. Hachar Honors program, where she graduated summa cum laude.

After graduating from TAMIU, Ms. Avila attended the University of Texas School of Law in Austin to earn her J.D. and is currently an attorney at the Washington D.C. law firm of Kellogg, Todd, Figel & Frederick PLLC where she specializes in trial and appellate litigation. She will begin her service to Justice Sotomayor this summer.

With her new appointment, Ms. Avila is the first TAMIU graduate to clerk on the nation’s highest court. TAMIU President Dr. Pablo Arenaz praised Ms. Avila for her commitment, persistence and cited her as a role model who has always pursued excellence with vision and drive. United ISD congratulates Ms. Avila on her well-deserved success.

“On behalf of UISD, our heartfelt congratulations go out to Ms. Avila. The amount of work she has put into achieving her goals has been impressive, and we commend her on her tremendous accomplishments. We are very proud of her”, said Superintendent David H. Gonzalez.
