LAREDO, Texas – During Monday’s council meeting, an item on the agenda was presented to be discussed during executive session regarding the findings on an internal investigation of the hiring process of entry level candidates within the Fire Department.
In response to the written allegations submitted to management and elected officials on the Fire Department hiring process, Laredo Fire Chief, Guillermo Heard, expressed the following statement:
“An investigation was conducted by the Human Resources Department, Risk Management Division due to numerous allegations and questioning of the processes of hiring entry level candidates on various steps. In their investigation, recommendations were made to improve the process and enhance transparency. Many of these recommendations have been implemented. It is not the practice of the City of Laredo to discuss personnel matters in public, however, we acknowledge the concerns and we have taken action on those items,” said Chief Guillermo Heard. “Many of the allegations that came forward against the hiring process were found to be unsubstantiated. We want to assure our community that the Laredo Fire Department continues to hire the most elite on the workforce.”
