Laredo, TEXAS – Due to the winter weather emergency experienced during the previous week in the State of Texas, the City of Laredo announces a Declaration of Local Disaster. Per the Texas Disaster Act of 1975, this makes Mayor Pete Saenz the Emergency Management Director for the City of Laredo. Thus, he may exercise powers granted to the governor on a local level.
The City of Laredo experienced record cold temperatures below freezing that caused ice accumulation for various days in roadways, lack of electrical power and water, and city operations to alleviate the community’s burden by opening shelter and warming centers. As of February 18, 2021, Mayor Pete Saenz has declared the following:
State of Disaster for the City of Laredo due to severe weather response (pursuant to Section 418.108 of the Texas Disaster Act)
City of Laredo’s Emergency Operational Plan has been implemented
State of disaster shall continue for no more than seven days, of the date hereof, unless the same is continued by consent of the Laredo City Council.
The proclamation will take effect immediately from and after its issuance. For more details, attached is the full Declaration of Local Disaster from the City of Laredo.
