(Laredo, Texas)-UISD proudly announces that its new middle school located in the Cuatro Vientos Sur subdivision will be named in honor of Board member Ricardo Molina Sr. – who at this time is the district’s longest serving board member. The two-story campus is located at the intersection of Vientos Road and Bianca Road within the cuatros vientos sur subdivision west of Bob Bullock Loop. It will accomodate 1000 students and is scheduled to open in August of 2021. The school mascot will be a Grizzly.
Mr. Molina began serving the District in 1996 when he was elected to his District 1 seat. In 2002 he served as Board Vice-President and then acquired the position of Parliamentarian from 2004-2005. He resumed his role as Vice President from 2006-2007 and returned to his present role as Board Parliamentarian thereafter. Mr. Molina also helped initiate the district’s dropout recovery program, which allows students who have left school an opportunity to Pursue a G.E.D. He also extended similar opportunities to adults by establishing GED programs for them. Over the course of his service to the District,Molina has worked diligently with fellow Board members and Superintendent Santos to implement various projects for the benefit of children, parents, and taxpayers. These projects include increased security at all campuses and placement of Gang Intervention Facilitators and Chemical Dependency Counselors in our high schools – and their respective feeder campuses. In addition, Mr. Molina advocated for zero tolerance drug policies at UISD campuses and was instrumental in the establishment of K-9 patrols within the UISD Police Department to help keep campuses free of drugs.
“I am surprised and honored to have the middle school campus named after me. I wish to thank my colleagues on the Board and Superintendent Santos for placing their faith in me over all these years. Together, we have helped the district remain on a trajectory of healthy growth and astounding academic improvement. All that hard work has created more learning and career opportunities than ever for our students. I will continue to work with our Board, parents, and constituents in order to provide our kids with the best tools and resources.”
Why is there a need to name or rename schools after elected officials?
It’s a shame that any elected official would allow for anything to be named after them while they are serving a term shame on Juan Ramirez and Ricardo Molina.
