Local Man Behind Bars Lands Additional Charges

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Friday, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested a local man currently behind bars on five charges of sexual assault and indecency with a child.
The suspect, Jose Tafoya, 19, was originally incarcerated on charges of possession of marijuana and failure to identity.
The investigation started when it was discovered that Tafoya, while in custody at the Webb County Jail, was writing letters to a 15-year-old juvenile female.
Tafoya was additionally charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency of a child in lieu of $50,000 bond for each individual count.
“I congratulate our Sheriff’s Office investigators for a job well done. This person is dangerous and needs to remain behind bars. I remind the public to report any suspicious activities by calling 956-415-BUST (2878). You can be eligible for a cash reward,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
