(Laredo, Tx)-Preparations for the 2020/21 school year continue at United ISD. Recently, the district’s bus drivers were given an overview of guidelines for enhanced health safety procedures. Drivers will oversee all students being transported in district school buses, and ensure that they follow specific safety protocols (including the wearing of masks while on board). Families must provide their children with two masks; one to wear, and an extra in the event of loss or contamination. Masks must be worn in a manner that covers the mouth and nose at all times. To ensure the health and safety of all riders, drivers and monitors will also wear appropriate coverings. Assigned seating will be implemented on all buses to ensure proper social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available on each bus, and students will use it upon entry to the vehicle.
Drivers also reviewed daily sanitizing procedures. Buses will be thoroughly cleaned after each trip throughout the day. This sanitization routine will focus on frequently touched surfaces such as bus seats, steering wheels, door handles, windows, rails and doors. During cleaning, windows will be open to allow for additional ventilation and airflow. Bus interiors will also be misted with a 70% alcohol solution on a daily basis.
For those who are attending classes at their campus, United ISD encourages families with the ability to do so, to transport students to and from school. Bus transportation will be offered to those students who qualify; however, seating will be limited so that social distancing can be maintained on all routes.
