(Laredo, Texas)-Recently, five Alexander High School students were named finalists for this year’s UIL State Theatrical Design Contest. The theme for the 2020 challenge was based on Life Is A Dream by Pedro Calderon De La Barca. The sponsor for the winning students is Theatrical Design Sponsor Erika Buentello. The winners are:
–Kristi Brooks – 2nd place in Costume Design
—Aless Cardenas – 2nd place in Hair & Make Up
— Emma Buentello – 2nd place in Marketing
–Cheeun Park – 2nd place in Set Design
–Ximena Villarreal – 2nd place in Group Costume Design
The purpose of the Theatrical Design Contest is to foster appreciation of good theatrical design, to increase the number of schools which have adapted technical theatre as an academic subject in school curricula, to learn to lose or win graciously, (accepting with good sportsmanship the decision and critique with a view to improve future projects), and to satisfy the competitive, artistic spirit with friendly rivalry among schools. The contest also helps students develop critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills to communicate ideas and concepts.
