Funds will support students in food sciences and STEM careers
LAREDO, TX- Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) and Laredo College announced $425,000 in federal funding to support students studying food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences (FANH) and Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
“Expanding education opportunities for underrepresented groups in South Texas is critical to the strength of our region’s economy and workforce,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This funding will ensure that students, specifically Hispanic and other minorities, have the necessary resources and skills to pursue a career in food, agriculture, natural resources and human sciences. This will directly impact our district and bring economic growth in our rural areas. As a member of the Agricultural Subcommittee on Appropriations, I will continue to fund programs that will help our younger generations and our economy to prosper through education.”
Dr. Ricardo J. Solis, President of Laredo College, said, “The Title III LEAPS Program reinforces the continued efforts of Laredo College to provide innovative approaches for students to access local opportunities in STEM fields while simultaneously meeting or exceeding the expectations of industry both locally and globally.”
