(Laredo, Texas)-Throughout the month of November, select campuses showcased and highlighted student achievements in a series of Dual Language Showcases. The purpose of hosting such events is to raise awareness for Bilingual Education within our school system as well as show student progress thus far. Each campus that hosted an event featured a different theme and highlighted students in grades Kinder through Fifth Grade.
Students from Colonel Santos Elementary School hosted parents for a fun informative history lesson on piñatas and their significance to the Mexican Culture. The cross-curricular performance dazzled all those in attendance as each grade level contributed a different portion to the presentation.
Students at Nye Elementary School hosted a Veterans Day Program in a very unique manner. This year, they chose to treat guests to a medley of patriotic music in both English and Spanish much to the delight of all those in attendance. Guests could be heard singing along to songs like “You’re a Grand Ol’ Flag” to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. It was a must see event!
