United ISD Celebrates Down Syndrome Awareness Month

Laredo, Texas: United ISD held two special ceremonies to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month. October is designated as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a chance to spread awareness.The ceremonies where held at Zaffirini Elementary and Nye Elementary with special guests from Laredo Down Syndrome Association and Laredo Down Moms.
United ISD students from special education classes joined in on the celebration and released blue and yellow balloons and displaying an official awareness banner. School organizations such as; Gonzalez middle “meet in the middle” and Nye elementary wildcat cheerleaders joined in to help celebrate and spread awareness.
“This is a special time where we can share with the world what it means to have Down Syndrome and celebrate their abilities and not their disabilities,” said Cynthia Ramirez, Executive Director of United ISD Special Education.
