AUSTIN–Rep. Richard Peña Raymond, Chairman of the House Committee on Human Services, filed HB 1501 paying tribute to the memory of the men, women and children lost in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001 and honoring the heroic actions of all first responders and volunteers who aided the innocent victims and courageously risked their own lives and health following the attacks.

Rep. Raymond’s bill will ensure a moment of silence in public schools to commemorate the 9/11 attacks in each year when September 11 falls on a school day. “It has been over 10 years since the attacks, that we should never forget, “said Rep. Raymond.

HB 1501 would specify that teachers make a statement of reference to the 9/11 tragedy during the daily moment of silence each September 11.”It is imperative that our public education system honor the victims’ memories and never allow our children to forget the tragedy that affected so many mothers, fathers, children, spouses and other loved ones of the September 11 attacks,” said Rep. Raymond.
