(Laredo, TX )  This year’s 4th Annual Spring Break Kite Festival was an array of sights:  children enjoying the carnival rides; families camped out under tents enjoying their picnics; kids oohing and aahing at the petting zoo; and most importantly, thousands of kites filling the air above North Central Park.  It is that atmosphere of fun and family that AT&T, a major sponsor of this year’s Kite Festival, hopes that one attendee captured to be able to put it on the cover of this year’  2012 AT&T Yellow Pages Phone Book.

“Every year, we look for an image of an event or landmark that will reflect this wonderful community, so we are very excited to offer this opportunity to have a photo contest for our directory cover,” said Roland Rodriguez, Area Market Manager for AT&T.  “The annual Spring Break Kite Festival brings families and the community together with a simple childhood activity that most of us have a fond memory of…kite flying.  We are confident that one of the submitted photos will capture a new memory for us to share with everyone.”

The rules are quite simple:  anyone who took a photo at the kite festival can submit their digital image for consideration for the cover. Amateur and professional photographers alike were asked to snap as many pictures of the event to submit for the photo contest to determine the cover of the next phone book. While there is no monetary value tied to this contest, the pride in knowing your photo was selected can’t be beat.

Starting today and continuing until Friday, May 4, images can be e-mailed to the following address:  attkitefestfotocontestentry@ci.laredo.tx.us.  A link to submit entries will be posted on the City’s website at www.cityoflaredo.com. No more than three images, one megabyte each, per e-mail will be accepted.  Entrants are asked to include the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact phone numbers (work, mobile and/or home)
  • Age
  • Affiliation (professional or amateur)

Photos will be reviewed and selected by a panel of judges and the winner will be notified.  The official unveiling of the cover and winner will be June 4, 2012, right before the Yellow Pages are distributed locally throughout the community.

“I look forward to seeing all of the images from this year’s Kite Festival,” said Dist. VI Charlie San Miguel, who once again hosted the event. “I am so appreciate to AT&T for not only being a sponsor of the event, but also, for believing in the event so much that they want to feature it on their Yellow Pages Phone Book, which is such an important resource for everyone in the community.  As a major sponsor of the Kite Fest, AT&T promoted safety around power lines.”

“We continue looking forward to working with the City of Laredo and our residents on the annual Spring Break Kite Festival. It has been a fun event every year for us and we continue being good corporate partners in our communities that we serve,” said Lupita Zepeda, Regional Manager of External Affairs for AT&T.

For the past four years, the Spring Break Kite Festival has been a free, family friendly event that harkens back to time-honored, affordable family entertainment, where families enjoyed spending time with each other outdoors, interacting and creating special family traditions.  Thanks to a bevy of local sponsors and community sponsors, the event continues to become more and more popular and well attended year after year.
