Martin High School JROTC to Host Drill Competition

(Laredo, Tx)- Martin High School US Army JROTC cadets will host the Rio Grande Valley Association’s Drill Competition on Saturday, February 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Drill Competition will take place at the new Shirley Field Sports Complex parking lot as well as the track and field of the new stadium.

 Eighteen South Texas JROTC high schools programs with over 500 cadets will be in Laredo this weekend competing in five different events that will have 80 trophies presented to the top finishers. Cadets will be from Army, Marines, Air Force, and Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC).

Laredo area high schools participating in the drill competition include: LBJ High School, United High School, United South High School, JB Alexander High School, Cigarroa High School and J.W. Nixon High School. Martin will not be competing since they will be the host campus. JROTC high schools from the RGV and South Texas include: Marine Military Academy, Roma High School, James Pace High School, Rio Grande High School, La Grulla High School, Harlingen High School, Juarez-Lincoln High School, Los Fresnos High School, Palm View High School, La Joya High School, Kingsville High School, and Hanna High School.

 Each of the five competitive events will have three areas where the different cadets will compete. The unarmed and arm teams will compete in Inspection, Drill, and Exhibition. Both male and mixed Color Guard will participate in Drill, Inspection, and Academic Leadership questions. The fifth event will be the physical training which will have teams competing in sit-ups and curls for females, 600 yd dash for male and females, and the pull up bars.

 The Texas Army National Guard will be sponsoring the trophies for the different events and will have their own exhibition on display at the parking lot of the new Shirley Field. The public is invited to attend the free events during the day.
