Quintanilla appointed to Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice

(Laredo, Tx)- The U.S. Department of Justice has appointed Estela Quintanilla of Laredo as an alternate member to the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
With this appointment, Quintanilla will assume an essential role in conveying the group’s perspectives on juvenile justice issues during the absence of the primary member. Quintanilla will serve as a representative for the following states and territories: California, Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. In late October, Quintanilla traveled to Washington D.C. for the first meeting of the full committee.
“It is an honor to be have been selected as a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice,” said Estella Quintanilla. “I feel that I have a wonderful opportunity to help juveniles as a whole and Texas in particular to get the grants, programs and other funding needed to help in the struggle to deter juveniles from ending up in the juvenile justice system.”
Quintanilla is a retired teacher and Crime Stoppers Coordinator for the Laredo Independent School District. She is the Region 10 Texas Representative of Crime Stoppers USA, Inc., a Texas Crime Stoppers Trainer and Technical Assistant, past president of the Texas Crime Stoppers Association, past president of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, and a former member of Texas Association of Gifted and Talented Teachers. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a master’s degree in Secondary Education from Laredo State University.
The Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) is a consultative body established by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act) and is supported by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Composed of appointed representatives of the nation’s State Advisory Groups, the committee advises the President and Congress on matters related to juvenile justice, evaluates the progress and accomplishments of juvenile justice activities and projects, and advises the OJJDP Administrator on the work of OJJDP. The Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) publishes its annual report to the President and Congress. The report addresses significant issues facing our nation’s juvenile justice system.
