LAREDO – A multi-agency group of child passenger safety (CPS) advocates held a press conference in a final push to help Texas families Buckle Them Right in Laredo . These CPS advocates want to keep children safe from harm while riding in passenger vehicles.
The Honorable Isidro R. Alaniz, Jr. and the Honorable Rosie Cuellar-Castillo, ardent supporters of this annual effort, were present along with certified CPS technicians and volunteer agencies demonstrated a united front today to make sure children are properly secured in child car seats.
Alaniz said, We congratulate TxDOT on being the leader on this very important cause, this campaign to keep our children safe on the public roads of Texas and Webb County . We are really excited. This is our third year in a row that our office supports this event and we will continue to support this important cause. Our priority in our office to keep families, keep the children of Webb County safe and prevent them from being injured. We commend TxDOT on spearheading this project.
Cuellar-Castillo said, I tell parents, you all have a choice when you decide not to put on your seat beats, we prefer that you put it on because we want you to be safe, but your children do not have that choice. If they depend on you to make that very, very safe choice for them and they depend on you to protect them.
We look at our statistics (Laredo Municipal Court), the last three years there has been a decline on child restraint offences; back in 2009 there were 1,700 violations, in 2010 there were 1400 violations and this last year there were 900 violations. Obviously, we are doing our jobs and I am proud to be part of this team, also said Cuellar-Castillo.
