( Laredo, TX) City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas will travel to El Paso tomorrow to meet with President Barack Obama at the invitation of the White House. The discussions will focus on the issues of border security and immigration reform. According to plans released by the White House, the president will land at Biggs Army Airfield and then travel to the Chamizal National Memorial, which is adjacent to the border with Juárez, Mexico to deliver an address. While the White House has not yet released the subject of the address, it is widely believed that the President will address immigration reform and border security. President Obams’s plans take him from El Paso to Austin for an event on Tuesday night.
“I am honored to be invited by the White House to meet with President Obama during his trip to El Paso,” stated Mayor Salinas. “My message to the president will be simple and clear: we welcome his leadership on border security and immigration reform, including a guest worker program, but as important as his leadership on these issues, we applaud his clear commitment to ensure that border voices are part of the conversation. We on the border know how interconnected the two issues are. We must be afforded the opportunity to offer insights into how best these challenges can be met.”
