Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – Remember those great “old school” Neighborhood Watch Programs where all the neighbors united together to keep their neighborhood safe? In the fast-paced modern world of today’s tech savvy citizens, Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar is taking crime reporting to the 21st century by introducing the crime fighting “EyeOnLaredo” iPhone application. This application will enable alert, civic-minded, and tech savvy iPhone users to report burglaries, drug trafficking, suspicious activity, prostitution, auto theft, gang activity, terrorism or any other type of suspicious activity in Webb County, Texas. Report what you see!
This marks the first time this type of crime fighting iPhone application becomes available in South Texas, and the Webb County is only the second major community in Texas to allow citizens to wield this cutting edge technology. Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar states, “We encourage you, the proud citizens of Webb County, to be our eyes and ears in our ever vigilant fight against crime. Together we can stand up to criminals and make our city a safer, better place for our children.”
The features include the following iPhone application abilities: iPhone location (longitude and latitude of crime observer), voice recording, text comments and the ability to provide a picture of the perceived crime. This application is only available for iPhone at this time, but the Webb County Sheriff’s Office would like to expand its availability to other smart phones in the near future.
