Have you ever wondered how you can become more involved in your adolescent’s life? Parents at Christen Middle School received one of six classes on active parenting and how it’s never too late to become involved.
The first class taught by Cristina Mussett, an extension agent of Prairie View Texas A&M University dealt with tips on anger management and finding different ways to praise children and motivate them with their endeavors. Classes will focus on the importance of contributing to a positive environment where children can grow to become individuals who will be assets to society.
An additional five classes will be held at Christen Middle on January 20, 25, 27, and February 1 and 3. Classes are conducted in Spanish and are free of charge and open to all parents of students at the middle school. Upon completion of the classes, parents will receive a certificate for their attendance.
The active parenting sessions are being put together by the Parental Involvement Department under the direction of Rosina Silva. According to Silva, “the goal of the sessions is to provide information and skills that will enable the parents to raise courageous, responsible, and cooperative children with a high self-esteem.”
Classes are currently being planned for Lamar, Memorial, and Cigarroa Middle Schools during the spring semester. For more information about the classes, please contact Rosina Silva with the Parental Involvement Department at 795-3386.
