City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas welcomed several organizations from our community to recognize them for their work and accomplishments in our community.
Kicking off Texas Archealogy Month in Laredo, Salinas welcomed Sanjuanita Martinez, Hunter, Vicente Bustament and Maria Luz Bustamante, members of the Webb County Archeology Society, a nonprofit corporation, acting independently and as a member of the Texas Archeological Society sponsors opportunities for active participation promoting study, preservation and awareness of Webb County, Texan, and Mexican Border Archeology to celebrate this event.
Later, several agencies came together to highlight the importance of cancer awareness, specifically, breast cancer, as the American Cancer Society, City of Laredo Health Department, Doctors Hospital, Laredo Medical Center, and Pink To Do, among others, to recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Laredo.
Fire Chief Steve Landin, Sparky and several members of the Laredo Fire Department were on hand to discuss the importance of fire prevention, talking about the activities that LFD will be undertaking this month, including school visits, demonstrations, fire station open houses, etc., to celebrate National Fire Prevention Week in Laredo.
Mayor Salinas & the Laredo City Council recognized Laredo Community College Camilo Prada Child Development Center for earning accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals.
Ana Christina Rodriguez was recognized and congratulated by the entire Laredo City Council on recently being crowned Miss Texas USA 2011, beating out 96 contestants from throughout the state of Texas.
Ms. Louise A. Mandel, and her four children were recognized for their generous contributions to the City of Laredo, including the donation of 290 acres of prime riverfront property located in west Laredo off of FM 1472 (Mines Road), known as property from Las Islitas Farm, to be dedicated for the Municipal Golf Course; 500 acre feet of water rights for the irrigation of the golf course for the next 30 years; and $1,000,000 for the construction of the municipal golf course to be named in memory of her late husband Max A. Mandel.
