Laredo, TX—The City of Laredo Health Department in collaboration with the Secretaria De Salud # 5 de Nuevo Laredo, Secretaria De Salud de Nuevo Leon/USMBHA join the United States/Mexico Border Health Commission, Pan American Health Organization, The United States Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration to highlight and commemorate the 8th annual Border Binational Health Week.
This year’s activities will start with a proclamation at the City of Laredo Health Department with the Honorable Mayor Raul G. Salinas on October 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. To address the major epidemic along the United States/Mexico Border, this year’s theme is “Families in Action for Health-Preventing Obesity and Diabetes.”
Through this effort we want to raise awareness about health promotion opportunities during Border Binational Health Week (BBHW) and support our goal of prevention in particular obesity and diabetes. In addition, BBHW will help to advance the implementation of Healthy Border 2010 Program, by encouraging and creating sustainable behavioral practices, organizational relationships, and community structures to improve health status and eliminate disparities. The City of Laredo Health Department along with our partners, are coordinating this event to inform the public about health promotion activities during BBHW.
Along with the Proclamation, a mini education and promotion health fair and training session will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon that will include booths on prevention, education and a discussion on Breast Cancer at 11 am in the auditorium.
