Recognitions at City Council

City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas and the Laredo City Council recognized outstanding individuals in Laredo’s community, for their accomplishments or contributions to our city.
Before starting the meeting, Mayor Salinas was joined by Mayor Pro Tempore Johnny Rendon, District V, Dr. Francisco Mirando, members of his staff, Rendon’s daughter, Diana, and other lymphoma survivors to help proclaim the month National Lymphoma Awareness Month.
Later, Border Media Radio Group presented a $15,000 check to the Laredo I.S.D., United I.S.D. and S.T.A.R.S. with money raised by their recent Battle of the Bands concert, to help buy uniforms and provide scholarships for local students.
Government officials from Costa Rica, Fernando Ocampo, Vice Minister of Exterior Commerce and Laura Escalante, of the same office, were on hand to be a part of the City Council meeting and extend their good wishes for a long and productive trade relationship between Costa Rica and Laredo.
Patrick A. Reyna, was recognized for earning the Boxing Champion Ringside 2010 Belt at the 10th Annual Ringside World Championship Tournament held last month in Kansas City, Missouri.
The late Mr. Fernando Valdez, an outstanding and exemplary employee of the Laredo International Airport, who recently passed away, was honored by Airport staff, the Airport Advisory Committee, as well as the City of Laredo, for his 30 years of dedicated service to the City. A plaque will be hung in his honor at the airport.
Students from the Sister Cities Youth Committee made presentations on recent Sister Cities Youth Conferences, one held in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the other in New Zealand.
