Webb County Sheriff’s Office Seizes 700 Pounds of Marijuana Over the Weekend

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Friday, August 30, 2010, at approximately 8 p.m., The Webb County Sheriff’s Office Narcotic Unit assisted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, conducted an investigation on a mechanic shop at the 8100 block of San Gabriel.  Deputies developed information  and an investigation was conducted regarding suspicious activity at this location. Upon arrival, Deputies observed a high volume of vehicular traffic and after approaching the shop they discovered several individuals on the property.  As a result, 10 large bundles of marijuana weighing at over 700 pounds, was seized from the location. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $364,320.

Artemio Lomas - mugDeputies arrested the shop owner 44 year old, Artemio Lomas Torres, for possession of marijuana, felony 2.  He was remanded to the Webb County jail.  Bond was set at $800,000.

 “I am very proud of the hard work that our officers perform, I am also proud of the relationships we have developed with other Law Enforcement agencies.  Since day one in this administration, our goal has been to keep our children and our community safe.  We were able to seize 700 pounds of marijuana that would of reach our children and our community.  This is a prime example of Law enforcement agencies working together making a strong effort in combating drug trafficking in our community”. Stated Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
