LPD traffic stop leads to over 1,900 lbs of Marijuana

On June 25, 2010 An LPD officer spotted a tractor trailer near a truck stop located off of IH-35. The officer witnessed a traffic violation committed by the truck and the vehicle was stopped as it exited near the truck stop. After routine questioning the officer noted inconsistencies in the driver’s story. An LPD canine was summoned to the location. The Police K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal contraband within the trailer and a search was conducted whereas several bundles of marijuana were located inside the trailer. The tractor trailer was escorted to the Laredo Police Department where a more thorough search could be made. A total of 59 bundles of marijuana with a gross weight of 1, 952 lbs. were located and seized.
The driver, Calvin L. Brandon of Chicago, Illinois, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana F/2 and transported to the Laredo Police Department for booking before being remanded to the Webb County Jail pending Magistration.
