Webb County Run-Off’s on for April 13th!!

The position for Webb County Judge will be decided on April 13th that is when Tano Tijerina will square off against the incumbent who came out on top in yesterday’s election with a total of 11,615 to Tijerina’s 10,969, Andres “Andy” Reyes came in third with 5,242 of the votes, with Louis H. Bruni coming in fourth with a total of 1,491.
Margie Ibarra will serve four more years as County Clerk taking 67.82% of the vote to Longino Garcia’s 8, 829 votes or 32.18%. The race for Webb County District Clerk will also be decided in April in a run-off between Sylvia Palumbo 33.73% and Esther Degollado who led the candidates with 35.59% only 523 votes separated the two candidates coming in third was Jackie L. Ramos with 4, 729 votes followed by Lydia Liendo Parra who had 3,884 votes.
Webb County Commissioner Pct.2 Rosaura “Wawi” Tijerina will face former County Commissioner Judith Gutierrez in a run-off. The Honorable Commissioner Tijerina recieved 48.26% of the votes in her Pct.2 to Gutierrez’ 35.66% finishing last in that race was Jose B. Salinas who finished the night with 1, 259 votes.
Another Commissioner in a run-off will be Webb County Commissioner Pct.4 Sergio “Keko” Martinez going up against challenger Jaime Canales. Canales edged out Martinez yesterday with at total of 2, 547 votes to Keko’s 2, 237 votes.
In Pct.4 the voters decided to keep Oscar Martinez as Justice of the Peace receiving 68% of the total 8, 932 votes cast his opponent Vicky Cantu received 2, 858 votes. Oscar Liendo will also remain as JP in Pct. 2 receiving 70.06% of the vote to his challenger’s Margarito Benavides’ 29.94%.
For the 111th District Court it comes down to Monica Zapata Notzon facing Jesus “Chuy” Dominguez. Monica Zapata Notzon took on two opponents and came out ahead of the pack with 13, 138 votes her closes rival was Dominguez who came in second with only 7, 937 of the votes cast.
Finally for Justice of the Peace Pct.2 Place 1 the incumbent received only 41.15% of the voters confidence with newcomer Danny Dominguez trailing him with 2, 324 votes. Ricardo Urdiales, Santos Benavides, and Victor Shunior came in third, fourth, and fifth resepectively in that race.
A total of 31, 354 votes were cast in this election 1, 245 votes were cast by Republicans and 30, 109 of the votes were cast by Webb County Democrats. Early voting for the run-offs will start on April 5th and will run till April 9th. Election Day for the run-offs will be on April 13, 2010.
