Bomb Detecting K-9 “Aaron” Joins Webb County Sheriff’s Office
Laredo, Texas (Webb County) —Today Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar introduced his office’s newest hire—“Aaron”. The Belgian Malanoa is trained specifically to detect bombs and explosives.
“The safety of our county buildings is obviously very important,” stated Sheriff Cuellar. “In the past few months we have received multiple bomb threats at county buildings. We are very happy to have Deputy Aaron on duty.”
Aaron’s handler is Luis Agredano. Deputy Agredano and Aaron recently returned from one month of training in Bandera, Texas where they tested Aaron’s skills and trained Deputy Agredano to work with the highly trained K-9 Aaron.
Sheriff Cuellar stated, “This was a badly-needed resource and upgrade to our office. It will allow us to better protect Webb County citizens from dangerous threats and enhance our response to emergencies. This unit will be on standby to respond to our local schools so that the parents know their kids are safe.”
The Webb County Sheriff’s Office already employs 3 K-9 units that specialize in Narcotic and currency detection. The newly addition Aaron will now be sworn in and added to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit as the newest member.
Sheriff Cuellar also elaborated and stated that he spend $ 8500.00 which derived from the use of forfeiture funds (Drug seized monies) to purchase and provide training for the new K-9 Aaron and his handler Deputy Agredano.
Deputy Agredano concluded, “The response has been great. People seem really receptive and happy to have this new layer of security.”
