Amateur boxing match to help raise funds for youth sports activities

Laredo, TX—While Laredo’s bravest usually provide gentle, medical attention to those in need, some firefighters will be delivering hits, punches and a pounding, all for a good cause.  Guns-N-Hoses of Laredo, a non-profit organization made up of Laredo firefighters, will be hosting an amateur boxing match versus BorderTown Pugilist, off-duty Border Patrol agents, in a 10 bout match, raising funds for youth sports activities.

The match will be on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Laredo Civic Center Ballroom, 2400 San Bernardo Avenue.  The doors open at 6:00 p.m., but the opening ceremonies will kick-off at 7:00 p.m.  Ticket prices range from $10 for general admission, to $15 for reserved seating, and can be purchased at Central Fire Station, located at 1 Guadalupe Street or by calling Tony Nañez at 286-0799.

Guns-N-Hoses was formed after they organized the first full-contact football game between the Laredo Fire Department and the Laredo Police Department. The organization plans to host several sporting events between firefighters and other first responders in the community to help raise funds to help them with their endeavors to encourage the youth of Laredo to get involved in sports.   The group plans to sponsor athletic camps to teach the fundamentals for such sports as basketball, soccer and baseball.
