Washington, D.C. –Congressman Henry Cuellar met with high-ranking officials from the State and Homeland Security departments where they discussed the process of obtaining passports and naturalization certificates.

During his meeting with Mario R. Ortiz, regional director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and with Brian Clark, assistant regional director of the Bureau of Consular Affairs Passport Agency, Congressman Cuellar discussed ways of how to streamline the process when applying for a passport, citizenship, or legal residency status.

“I understand and am aware that applying for a passport, citizenship, or legal residency status is a detailed and timely process. My purpose for the meeting with Mr. Ortiz and Mr. Clark was to learn more about the procedures and how better I can serve my constituents in the 28th Congressional District,” said Congressman Cuellar.

The three also discussed the current issue plaguing residents along the U.S.-Mexico border who were born to a midwife.

“The Department of State is working hard to ensure that midwife issues are addressed in the shortest time possible for people who are applying for passports,” said Congressman Cuellar. “Due to the recent cases of fraud that have come up, the State Department is taking extra steps to ensure that all U.S. Citizens are treat equally.”
