The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) 8th annual Click It or Ticket (CIOT) safety belt enforcement campaign will take place May 18 through May 31. State and local law enforcement will be working overtime to ensure motorists and passengers are following Texas safety belt laws. Safety belt violations will result in fines of $25 to $200, plus court costs.
Dates for Click It or Ticket (CIOT) campaign:
● Statewide news conference at the Capitol: May 7
● Teen media campaign: May 8 – 15
● Teen enforcement (5 counties): May 11 – 17
● Statewide media campaign: May 16 – 29
● Statewide enforcement: May 18 – 31
Although the Laredo Police Department will be awarded $20,000 for CIOT seat belt law enforcement, the traveling public should be reminded that Click It or Ticket is everyday statewide.
The fact is agencies work very hard to keep motorists safe, yet still we see too many stories on the news about tragic vehicle crashes that end in serious injury or even death.
We want to ensure that people use their safety belts. Wearing your safety belt is the surest way to survive a serious crash. Plus, it’s the law and has been for more than 20 years.
