Operation Lone Star Ends

Laredo, TX- Although there are still some persons being seen at Rio Bravo, the doors have closed at both Zapata and Rio Bravo for the 6th Annual Operation Lone Star (OLS).
 Over 1,067 medical exams, screening services and immunizations were given with over 1,000 persons attending and 985 seen for medical care. “Unspeakable Subject Topic of Writing Group”

On Saturday, July 28, 2012, from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the HEB Multi-Purpose Room,, the Laredo Public Library, 1120 E. Calton Road, will host The Greatest Silence Writing Group, a group based on the film, The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo by film maker Lisa Jackson, a documentary about violence and rape against women in the Congo.  The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Barbara Baker, a faculty member at Texas A&M International University.

Arena Signs Letter of Intent for Hockey

 LAREDO, Texas—The SMG-managed Laredo Energy Arena has announced it has signed a formal letter of intent with Consolidated Sports Holdings USA to bring a North American Hockey League (NAHL) team to play at the arena beginning in 2013.
 Consolidated Sports Holdings USA manages professional sports teams, including Central Hockey League (CHL) and NAHL hockey teams throughout the U.S., including some neighboring venues in South Texas.

Loop 20-SH 359 Intersection Closure

LAREDO, TX- Weather permitting, Ballenger Construction will be closing the intersection at LP 20/SH 359 starting Friday, July 27, 2012 at midnight thru Saturday, July 28, 2012 at  8 a.m.
There will be no “thru” traffic movements permitted on NB (northbound) and SB (southbound) LP 20 and EB (eastbound) and WB (westbound) SH 359. Certain right-turn movements will be allowed at the intersection with the guidance of law enforcement.

El Metro ADA Sidewalks and Ramps Construction Project to Cause Partial Lane Closure on Bartlett Avenue

 Work continues until Friday, July 27, 2012, a private contractor for the City’s transit service, El Metro, will be constructing new sidewalks and ramps compliant with the American with Disabilities Act, along Bartlett Street, from Price Street to East Lyon Street.  This will cause a partial lane closure on the eastern side of Bartlett, for the installation of concrete and two blocks of sidewalk.

Webb County To Launch Employee Health Program

 A new program to keep Webb County employees healthy will be kicked off this Tuesday at the County. 
Webb County Commissioners recently approved Catapult Health, a worksite health screening program offering a diagnostic blood test and follow-up of results with a nurse practitioner.  The free service is offered to all Webb County employees and their adult dependents covered under the County’s BCBSTX health insurance plan.

The Webb County Sheriff’s Seeks Community Involvement In Solving Murder Case

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to the community of Webb County for assistance regarding a murder case.  On January 8, 2012 the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to a call of a deceased person on a ranch approximately 2 miles east of Laredo.  Upon arrival at the scene, investigators identified that a male subject had been shot multiple times and through investigations and DNA analysis the remains were found to be those of Jose Partida de Anda who was 33 years of …
