Soldier Returns from Kuwait to Surprise Son

Courtesy Yvette Trevino,

(Laredo, Texas)-Sergeant George Gonzalez returned home after a nine month deployment to Kuwait as part of Operation Inherit Resolve and the only thing on his mind was his six year old son, Cristian. With the help of school administrators at Finley Elementary School, his mother Adriana, devised a plan to surprise Cristian with his father’s homecoming.

Campus Principal Joe Garza had the perfect plan for the big reveal. He’d dress up as Santa and deliver presents to the boys and girls in Cristian’s class, but one present would be too big to wrap and wouldn’t fit in Santa’s bag. As the children filed into the beautifully decorated Library the event began when the children heard Santa’s bells ringing.
With Sgt. Gonzalez’s family watching Principal Garza put his plan into action. Cristian was not only surprised that his gift didn’t fit, but he was brought to tears that Santa had something extra special for him. After a bit of searching around the tree, Santa found the perfect gift sitting in the Librarian’s Office.
Sergeant Gonzalez could hardly wait for the time to arrive when he’d see Cristian. He sprang from his seat and Cristian and his father shared an embrace over a year in the making.
Christmas will certainly be extra special for the Gonzalez Family this year. Cristian’s Daddy returned home safely and the Gonzalez Family has their son, George, safely home. The Finley Community has a little extra something to smile about this evening.
