Don’t Let Flu Stop You! Fight Back, Get Vaccinated!


Mayor Salinas to get his yearly flu shot, encourages community to protect themselves with easy, safe and painless shot

Laredo, TX— FLU vaccine is the most effective measure towards reducing the impact of influenza, especially for those at high risk that are more susceptible to respiratory complications and infections that send many to the emergency room, especially during the winter months.  The very young, elderly, those with heart and lung problems, allergies, pregnant or immune-compromised are extremely at risk for complications.

“The flu vaccine is the safest, easiest, and relatively painless way to protect you and your loved ones from suffering from the flu this season.  Join me andprotect yourself and get vaccinated,” stressed Salinas.

 What are FLU symptoms? 
FLU is sudden and symptoms include:

·         Fever (100.4° F or more)

·         Headache

·         Fatigue, sometimes extreme

·         Dry cough, sore throat

·         Extreme body aches

 Practice preventive measures such as:

·         Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it and wash your hands.

·         If you cough, cough into your elbow, sleeve, or into tissues.  Wash your hands.

·         Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze and use the bathroom.

·         Use alcohol-based hand cleaners which are also effective.

·         Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth especially after you cough or sneeze.

 Where can I get FLU and Pneumonia shots?

Vaccines are available at your primary physician’s office AND at:

City of Laredo Health Department

Monday through Friday

8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

(extended hours on Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.)

or at Health Department WIC Clinics (Call for times)

 The cost is $20.00 for adults (FREE for Medicare Part B recipients – Please bring your card.)
