City of Laredo Honors Student Athletes, Academic Leaders, and National Champions During City Council Meeting

LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño and the Laredo City Council proudly recognized outstanding student athletes, academic achievers, and championship teams during Monday evening’s City Council meeting, celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of young leaders who continue to excel in competition, academics, leadership, and the performing arts.
Among those recognized were several championship teams from the Boys & Girls Club Annual League Basketball Program, including:
Blessed Sacrament 5th Grade 5A Champions
Lady Broncos 3rd Grade A Girls Champions
San Isidro Raptors 2nd Grade 7A Champions
Gallego Ligers 4th Grade 3A Champions

The City Council also honored Harmony School of Excellence student Juan Lopez for his outstanding track and field season. Lopez earned third place in the 400-meter race at the UIL 4A Region 4 Track Meet and set a new UIL Area District 31-32 4A record with a time of 49.24 seconds, becoming the fastest 400-meter runner in district history.
Several Harmony School of Excellence students were recognized for their exceptional performance at the HOSA State Leadership Conference. Alexandra Trevino, Isabella Gonzalez, Karime Saldivar, and Regina Saldivar earned first place in Community Awareness, while Genesis Garza earned fourth place in Speaking Skills and was recognized as an Outstanding HOSA Member.
San Isidro Elementary Raptorettes Dance Team was recognized for capturing National championship honors and first-place in Jazz, Kick, Pom, and Hip-Hop categories, along with earning Best in Class and Top Overall Public Team distinctions.

The Borchers Elementary School Starlettes were recognized for earning first-place awards in Pom, Hip Hop, and Jazz while also being named Grand Champions, Level Champions, and Hip Hop Overall Grand Champions.
Additionally, Alexander High School student-athlete Cristina Garcia was recognized for qualifying for the UIL State Track and Field Championships for two consecutive years and returning home this year with a third-place state medal.
The City of Laredo congratulates all honorees and extends its appreciation to the families, coaches, teachers, administrators, and mentors whose support helped make these achievements possible.
