LAREDO – Buckling up is the single most effective way to prevent serious injury or worse in a crash. Yet millions of Texans still choose to not wear a seat belt.
Buckling up, every seat, every ride is an important way we can all drive like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe. It’s also the law — Click it or Ticket.

To reinforce this lifesaving message, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is featuring a powerful demonstration on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Doctors Hospital of Laredo Parking Lot
10700 McPherson Roadshowing a sports car stopped in motion using seat belt webbing. The display highlights the strength of seat belts and their ability to withstand tremendous force in a crash.

TxDOT is also partnering with law enforcement agencies for a special statewide enforcement period. From May 18 through May 31, officers will focus on ticketing drivers and passengers who fail to buckle up or properly secure their children in car seats.
The Click It or Ticket campaign is an important part of TxDOT’s Drive like a Texan: Kind. Courteous. Safe. initiative. Drive like a Texan is about embracing the pride, camaraderie and responsibility of being a Texan on the road. By making thoughtful choices, we can all help keep each other safe.
