The Webb County Better Community Foundation Awards Scholarships to Students

LAREDO, Texas – The Webb County Better Community Foundation (WCBCF) awarded 29 academic collegiate scholarship to local high school seniors during a special ceremony held at the Central Jury Room on April 7, 2026.

Founder and Chairman District Attorney Isidro “Chilo” Alaniz presented the students with their award. The foundation reviewed hundreds of applicants from all high schools in Webb and Zapata counties. The recipients chosen were students who demonstrated a commitment to excellence throughout their high school career and leadership.

The $1,000 scholarship will aid high school seniors with financial assistance to students wanting to pursue a college degree in any field.

The following students were the scholarship recipients: Bruni High: Abygale Veirs, Ava Rossi, Kaleyanne Lowe and Natalie Vera Cigarroa High: Daniela Garza, Jeffry Resendiz and Nery E. Briones Jr. Alexander High: Amairani Ramon, Luis E. Pedroza and Mauricio Hernandez Nixon High: Adrian Palacios, Jose Luis Casarez III and Kylie Vega LBJ High: Angel Morin, Isela Saldivar, Leonardo Perez and Vianey Leyva Martin High: Daniela Isabel Martinez and Jessica Reyes United High: Adrian Vazquez, Angel Mata Jr. and Valerie Tristan United South: Bianney Ramirez, Isabella Longoria, Kari Guerra & Milek J. Hernandez Zapata High: Anyssa Gabriella Gonzalez, Ilanie Landa and Kively Alaniz.

Since its creation in 2014, Mr. Alaniz her presented 123 thousand dollars in scholarships.
