LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo Utilities Department has successfully completed its routine free chlorine conversion process, a standard maintenance measure designed to ensure the continued safety and quality of the City’s water system.

Beginning Monday, April 27, 2026, crews will conduct final system flushing at fire hydrants throughout the city as part of the concluding phase of this process. Residents may notice temporary water flow changes in certain areas during this activity.

This conversion, which began earlier this month, is performed periodically to maintain system integrity and water quality. During the process, some residents may have noticed a stronger chlorine taste or odor. With the completion of the conversion, these conditions are expected to subside.
The Utilities Department emphasizes that Laredo’s drinking water remains safe and continues to meet or exceed all state and federal regulatory standards.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Utilities Department at (956) 721-2000 or dial 3-1-1.
