Man Sprayed with Insect Repellent During Fight

Laredo, Texas- On Saturday at approximately 4 p.m. a call of a fight between two men and that one of the men was spraying a chemical into the face of the other man by 301 Salinas. When officers arrived Police identified, 37 year old Elias Perez, as the victim. He had been repeatedly sprayed in the face with a can of Raid insect repellent.
The victim had swelling in his eyes and was having a severe reaction to the insect repellent he was attacked with. The suspect was also on scene and was identified as Arturo Alvarez, age 61.
The argument which then turned into a physical fight allegedly started when Alvarez who was driving a gray Mitsubishi Outlander was driving southbound on 300 Salinas, and Perez along with his children crossed the street at Grant.
The victim alleged that Alvarez was driving recklessly and came close to hitting his children when they crossed the street.
The 2 men began to exchange profanities and Alvarez opened his car door with a can of Raid insect spray and began to spray the insect repellent into the face, mouth and eyes of the victim.
The victim eventually took the can of Raid away from Alavarez who then brandished a knife and swung it at Perez. Bystanders intervened and broke up the altercation. Video of the fight was provided to the officers. Alvarez was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon F/2.
