Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo delegation continued its federal advocacy efforts in the nation’s capital, engaging in strategic meetings with federal agencies and international partners to advance economic development, workforce opportunities, environmental restoration, trade facilitation, and support for local industries that directly impact the Laredo community.

Led by Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, members of City Council, and city leadership, the delegation met with the following agencies and partners:

· Small Business Administration: Discussions focused on advocating for incentives that support local business growth and encourage domestic manufacturing expansion, aligning with federal priorities to strengthen U.S. supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign imports.

· United States Army Corps of Engineers: The delegation discussed the Chacon Creek Environmental Restoration Project feasibility study. The project has reached the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 902 cost limit under its original authorization; therefore, congressional reauthorization will be necessary to proceed and to address updated cost estimates, analyses, and compliance requirements.

· U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA): Conversations addressed the shortage of companion animal veterinary services, exploring potential federal designations, expansion of the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program, and the integration of companion animal care into One Health pilot initiatives.

· Embassy of Canada: Discussions reinforced Laredo’s critical role in North American trade corridors and explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade facilitation while promoting increased engagement between Canadian and local private-sector partners.

· Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration: The meeting focused on expanding access to career pathways that lead to family-sustaining wages and aligning workforce development programs with high-demand industries that support economic growth in the Laredo region.

Throughout the meetings, the delegation emphasized Laredo’s position as the nation’s leading inland port and highlighted the importance of continued federal collaboration to support economic competitiveness, infrastructure investment, and workforce development.

The City of Laredo will continue working closely with federal partners to strengthen strategic relationships, secure federal support, and advance initiatives that promote long-term economic opportunity and quality of life for the community.
