Laredo, Texas – The City of Laredo Utilities Department began its Free Chlorine Conversion for water treatment on Friday, March 27, 2026, as part of its routine bi-annual maintenance program. The process is expected to last approximately 30 days.

Residents are assured that the water will remain safe to drink throughout this period. However, some may notice temporary changes in taste or odor, which are normal during the conversion process.

As part of this maintenance, crews will also be flushing fire hydrants across the city. During this time, some areas may experience low to no water pressure for short periods, typically lasting 30 to 45 minutes. Water pressure will return to normal once flushing is complete.

This important maintenance effort helps keep the water distribution system clean and ensures the continued delivery of high-quality, reliable water service to the community.
The City of Laredo appreciates the public’s patience and understanding during this process.
