Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar Issues Public Statement

(Laredo, Texas)-I want to speak to the people of Webb County and my community clearly and directly.

I am completely innocent of these charges. Over the course of my career—as a Texas State Trooper, a Narcotics Sergeant investigator, Narcotics Lieutenant and now as your Sheriff—I have learned the difference between what is right and what is wrong, and I know what I did and did not do.

I have spent 45 years serving the State of Texas and this community with integrity and honor. That commitment has not changed. I respect our justice system, and I am confident that when the facts are fully and fairly examined, the truth will be clear.

While this process moves forward, I ask the public to let the facts—not rumors, not speculation—guide their judgment. My responsibility remains the same as it was yesterday and the day before: to protect this county, to support the brave and dedicated deputies and staff who put on the uniform every day, and to ensure the safety and well-being of every resident we serve.

I remain fully engaged in my duties and in communication with the community. Public safety does not pause, and neither does my commitment to this office.

I am grateful for the prayers and support of those who know my character and my record of service. To my family and close friends, I ask for patience and strength during this time. We will move through this with faith, dignity, and resolve.

I look forward to being fully vindicated.
Martin Cuellar Jr. Sheriff
