Espinoza- Cortina Found Guilty and Sentenced to Prison

(Laredo, Texas)-The District Attorney’s Office reports that a jury of 6 women and 6 men in the 406th District Court has found Abraham Espinoza- Cortina GUILTY of two counts of Indecency w/child Sexual Contact F/2 and Not Guilty of Indecency w/child Exposes F/3. This case came to light on January 10, 2021 when the Laredo Police Department responded to a call for a sexual assault report at a residence in Webb County.

Upon arrival to the home, LPD officer made contact with a male who said that his girlfriend’s niece had been molested by her aunt ‘s boyfriend who was inside the home. After further investigation, LPD officers identified the suspect as Abraham Espinoza Cortina and was taken to be interviewed by LPD SIU Investigator.

After that night, Special Investigations Unit took over the case and Abraham Espinoza Cortina was later arrested for two counts of Indecency with Child Sexual Contact F/2 and Sexual Indecency with a Child- Exposure F3. The trial, which took place before the Honorable Judge David E. Garcia was presented to a jury over the course of four days and rendered their guilty verdict after 3 1/2 hours of deliberation. Punishment phase followed and after 45 minutes of deliberations the jury assessed punishment at 3 years to serve and a $1,000 fine for count 1 and 4 years to serve and a $1,000 fine for count 2. Judge Garcia ordered that the sentences shall run concurrent with credit for time served.

406th District Court Chief ADA Cristal Calderon, ADA Carlos Garza, ADA Mario Guerra and ADA Fernando Flores prosecuted the case for the State of Texas. Attorney Oscar O. Pena represented Mr. Espinoza-Cortina.
