Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – Sheriff Martin Cuellar today issued the following statement regarding the current situation at Safe Haven, a local office where parents are able to exchange custody of their children in a safe environment.
“We understand the challenges caused by the current government shutdown, and after consulting with our attorney here in the county, I am pleased to announce that our Safe Haven office, located at Mall del Norte, will open immediately to continue providing services to the community. I have made this program a top priority to ensure the safety and well-being of our community’s children and families.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support as we work together to keep Webb County safe. I also want to thank Marissa Rodriguez Limon for reminding me about this ongoing issue. As soon as she mentioned it, I immediately followed up on it because our children do not deserve to suffer because of the consequences of the government shutdown.”
