City of Laredo Honors Amado M. Peña, Jr. with Key to the City

LAREDO, Texas – The City of Laredo Mayor, Dr. Victor D. Treviño, proudly presented the Key to the City to Amado M. Peña, Jr., a celebrated artist and Laredo native whose pioneering work has left a lasting legacy on the national and international art scene.

Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, alongside members of the City Council, recognized Mr. Peña for his invaluable contributions to the Chicano art movement and his vivid portrayal of indigenous life and traditions. His artistic works have been featured in prestigious institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies Collection, earning him acclaim as a cultural ambassador and visionary.

Mr. Peña, known for his bold use of color, layered symbolism, and cultural themes, has been a source of inspiration to generations of artists, educators, and students.

His life’s work reflects a profound respect for Native American and Latino communities, and his continued commitment to education through the Amado Peña Art & Cultural Foundation further extends his impact across Texas and beyond.
