Laredo Animal Care Services Successfully Completes 2025 Oral Rabies Vaccination Program

Laredo, Texas – Laredo Animal Care Services (LACS) is proud to announce the successful completion of the 2025 Oral Rabies Vaccination Program (ORVP) Hand Baiting Operation. As part of LACS’ ongoing efforts to protect both animals and humans, approximately 3,000 oral rabies vaccine baits were distributed throughout the outer areas of Laredo, strategically targeting local wildlife populations to prevent the spread of rabies.

This year’s operation was entirely carried out by our local municipal team, making Laredo the only city in Texas Health Region 11 to complete this operation independently without assistance from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This accomplishment highlights Laredo Animal Care’s commitment to protecting our public health.

Wildlife are vaccinated by consuming the hand bait, which contains a packet of the oral rabies vaccine. Once ingested, the vaccine stimulates an immune response, helping to prevent rabies outbreaks in wildlife and reducing the risk of transmission to pets and humans. By providing these vaccine baits, LACS is creating a safer environment for both animals and people in our community.

Laredo Animal Care Services also would like to remind the community that keeping your pets’ vaccinations up to date is the first and most important step in protecting their health and safety. To support pet owners in this effort, LACS will be hosting its second Rabies Vaccination Clinic in early July at their facility located at 5202 Maher Avenue. More details will be shared soon via their social media platforms.
