LAREDO, Texas – The future of traffic relief on Mines Road (FM 1472) begins with community input. On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) hosted a public meeting at the Laredo College South Campus to present the Segment 1 Feasibility Study for FM 1472, a project that is vital to the future mobility and economic growth of Laredo.
City of Laredo officials, including Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño and Mayor Pro Tempore and District 7 Council Member Vanessa Perez, joined state and federal partners to listen directly to residents’ concerns and discuss possible improvements. These options aim to address safety, congestion, and the growing needs of both passenger and commercial traffic in the rapidly developing Mines Road corridor.

“This project is a priority for our city,” said Mayor Dr. Treviño. “With the presidential permits recently approved to expand the World Trade and Colombia Solidarity Bridges, we must ensure that our road infrastructure is ready to handle future growth and international trade traffic.”
Those who were unable to attend the meeting are strongly encouraged to participate in shaping the future of this corridor. Community members can submit their input through an online form available at:

Comments must be submitted by Monday, July 7, 2025, to be included in the official record for the public meeting. Once the review is complete, responses to public feedback will be made available on the TxDOT website.
“Relief is coming,” commented Mayor Pro Tempore Perez. “Please help let TxDOT know Mines Road improvements are a priority for our community by submitting comments to them at the online submission form by July 7, 2025. If anyone needs help, please contact me at di*******@**********tx.us or call my office at 956-791-7305, and we’ll help you make your voice heard.”

TxDOT’s FM 1472 Segment 1 Feasibility Study aims to develop a recommended alternative that improves safety, reduces congestion, and enhances travel conditions for all road users, supporting Laredo’s role as a key international trade hub.
The City of Laredo remains committed to working alongside TxDOT and our community to move this vital project forward.
