City of McAllen Launches Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program

Assistance Available to Help Prevent Homelessness and Support Housing Stability

(McAllen, Texas)-The City of McAllen is now accepting applications for its Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program, an initiative supported by the HOME American Rescue Plan, designed to assist extremely low-income households who are struggling to pay rent. The program aims to help McAllen residents regain housing stability and prevent homelessness.

Eligible residents can apply in person on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 27 through August 28, 2025, at Las Palmas Community Center, located at 1921 N. 25th St., McAllen, TX 78501, during the following hours:

9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“We encourage residents who are facing housing insecurity to come forward and see if they qualify for this important assistance,” said Julia Lash, Director, Grants & Community Development Block Grant Administration Department. “This program is a vital tool in our efforts to ensure that all McAllen families have access to safe and stable housing.”

Eligibility requirements:

· Must be a resident of McAllen

· Must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency

· Must meet program income limits

· Must provide proof of income
