(Laredo, Texas)-South Laredo’s Suga Show Basketball Team and Team Clutch play a thrilling game that came down to the last second to determine the winner. Clutch manages to get back in the game during second half of play after being down by as many as 20 points at the end losing to Suga Show by a score of 65-64.
It was Suga Show that came up strong in the first half with a barrage of three pointers by Anthony Merino and Josue Casarez who continue their strong play reminiscent of their first season in which they used speed and agility to get thru opposing team defenders.
Both Merino and Casarez accounted for 34 points combined with Merino finishing his night with 18 and Casarez with 16.
Suga’s big men played a huge part in determining the outcome as Louie Ibarra puts up 16 points on 11 rebounds coming out in brief moments of the game to rest up as Carlos M Rodriguez takes over for a few minutes for Ibarra and shines on defense with 6 rebounds adding 2 points of his own and a key block in the second half that led to a frustrated defender receiving a technical.
Jerry “The Mantis” Garcia as always dominated at the power forward position at times playing center as he shut down opposing offensive threats with a tight defense. Garcia comes up strong on the rebounding end of the game finsihing with 11 boards while putting up 9 points finding ways to get the ball up with his incredible agility and footwork.
Galaxander Mata and Mike Robles played a superb defense helping shut down Team Clutches shooters for the most part of the game on their end while adding 2 points a piece to the scoreboard.
Team Clutch didn’t back down an inch on offense nor defense in a game in which Team Clutch fans showed up to cheer their team on with loud chants of defense encouraging their team to keep up with Suga Show as they looked to avenge the last matchup of the regular season between both teams which resulted in a win for Suga.
No doubt that Team Clutch has cemented its stay in the A Division of the City of Laredo’s Parks and Recreational Leagues with a young team that will be around as a group for a good run in upcoming seasons.
Last night’s game has to go up as the game of the year for both teams as both played to the end with a strong determination to win.
Team Clutch now goes on to play in an elimination matchup against Trifecta who lost earlier in the evening to Team Howland while Suga Show moves up to a much anticipated rematch against Howland both games will be played tomorrow Thursday April 10th at the Haynes Recreational Center on Clark Blvd.
