McAllen Public Library is proud to announce that its Palm View Branch Library has been selected as one of only 10 Texas libraries to receive funding through the Family Place Libraries™ Project Grant, awarded by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC). This initiative will allow Palm View Branch to develop innovative early learning spaces and programming designed to support young children and their caregivers.
The Family Place Libraries™ model transforms public libraries into early childhood and family engagement centers, emphasizing the vital role of parents as their child’s first teacher. Through this grant, Palm View Branch Library will establish a dedicated Family Place area, enhance its parenting resources, and host interactive workshops for families with children ages 0-5 years old.
“At McAllen Public Library, we are committed to fostering a love of learning from the very start,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “This grant will allow us to expand Palm View Branch Library’s services, providing families with meaningful opportunities to play, explore, and grow together.”
The Family Place Libraries™ model helps libraries nationwide create welcoming environments that support early childhood brain development, literacy, and social-emotional learning. Through a combination of interactive spaces, specialized training, and parent-child workshops, the program ensures that every child has access to the resources needed for a strong start in life.
“The City of McAllen is delighted that our Palm View Branch Library has been selected for this impactful initiative,” said McAllen City Manager, Isaac J. Tawil. “By enhancing early learning services, we are investing in the success of our youngest residents and strengthening our community as a whole.”
With this funding, Palm View Branch Library will join a national network of Family Place Libraries™, including Main Library and Lark Branch Library, reaffirming its commitment to providing accessible, high-quality early literacy resources to families in the Rio Grande Valley.
